However, the wave-based enemy fights were awful, and terribly repetitive.
It was a lot simpler than DA1 or the D&D games, but it had a lot of tactical options. The character options and RPG system were good. I'm certain we won't see the same cave map used for 5 different dungeons!ĭA2 failed because it was rushed, but it has some really good bits. I'm sure Bioware have a lot of publisher support this time, since they need to recover their image a bit after the disappointment with DA2 and the ME3 ending. I'm certainly looking forward to Inquisition. In today's market, we have lots of alternatives for CRPGs (thank you Kickstarter), so I'm not saying that you should go out and get DA2 right away.
Except it worked just fine in the ME series and merely works okay in the DA series.Įverything else would be okay or good from most other developers, but the BioWare brand hurt the game. They tried to actionize between DA:O and DA2 the same way that they actionized Mass Effect between ME1 and ME2. It's not great, but it's not that bad either. Though a part of me says that while the dungeons in Skyrim weren't exactly the same, in my recollection, they were mostly always shaped in a loop, with a direct line from entrance to boss, and Skyrim doesn't get much flak for that. IMHO, the only real inexcusable fault is the reused environments. I think a lot of the hatred comes from the fact that it departed so far away from DA:O, so a lot of things that would be tolerated otherwise are absolutely hated upon. DA2 wasn't a horrible game per se, and I think it is basically worth a play. I've said it before, and I'll keep on saying it. Skipped DA2 'cuz GESC gave it the thumbs down.
